Artist Statement

​To me, Art is an act of deliberate creation that persists in the artists mind until the surrender

of it's creation. And once created it need not be liked by anyone, including the artist. 

It's power is in the creation.

My name is Jack Keough, but there are a lot of those, so I go by

Artist Jack Keough. I'm a 60+ year old contemporary figurative oil & oil pastels painter and sculptor of my inspirations, and some rages, in my sprawling lifetime of tilting towards the underdog. Whenever appropriate I enjoy incorporating humor into my works, especially my portraits and titles.

I paint mostly portraits from carefully cropped photos to achieve a different point of view of my common subjects. By playing with the interpersonal space, I bring the audience into the world of the subject, rather than just an observation of the subject. I do not limit my work to just portraits however as you will see in the other galleries. but the cropping work remains the same.

 

My sculptures are contemporary abstract figurative and conceptual works using natural and man made found objects.

I work alone, in my cellar studio, with my collection.
