Artist Statement

​To me, Art is an act of deliberate creation that persists in the artists mind until the surrender

of it's creation. And once created it need not be liked by anyone, including the artist. 

It's power is in the creation.

My name is Jack Keough, but there are a lot of those, so I go by

Artist Jack Keough. I'm a 60+ year old contemporary figurative oil & oil pastels painter and sculptor of my inspirations, and some rages, in my sprawling lifetime of tilting towards the underdog. Whenever appropriate I enjoy incorporating humor into my works, especially my portraits and titles.

I paint from carefully cropped photos to achieve a different point of view of my common subjects, by playing with the interpersonal space, to bring (you) the audience into the world of the subject.

 

My sculpture is contemporary abstract figurative and conceptual works using natural and man made found objects.

I work alone, in my cellar studio, with my collection.
